Rooting an android!

Rooting of an android means you get the privilege to tweak/change the performance of your android so that it suits your need. Rooting can help you to uninstall bloat ware apps, increase battery life, increase RAM efficiency, modify GPU of your android, customize it by installing custom software and themes (ROM’s).Rooting is basically gaining superuser access of your android.

Is it safe?
Well nothing is safe in this world! So I guess this won’t be too. The question that you need to answer is how far you are willing to go to get the most out of your smartphone? If the answer is yes then rooting is for you.  You will lose your manufacturer’s warranty if you root your device but you can always unroot a phone and regain the warranty.

Can I do it?
Yes, you can. I guess if you are reading this the nerd in you is ready to come out. All you need are proper software, drivers and well defined understandable procedure (if it has picture or video tutorial then that’s really very helpful). Every device has unique rooting package make sure that you have the right one.  Above all these prerequisites what you really need is to make up your mind. You should be sure whether you want to do it or not?

Advantages:

1. One of the most serious drawbacks that mid-range and low range smartphones face today include shortage of internal memory. Mostly smartphones that fall under the category of INR 10,000 have internal storage of 4 GB commonly it may be more sometimes. Brands like Micromax, Karbonn, Intex, Xolo have incorporated installation of all applications as well as data/obb on external SD card but  global smartphone makers like Samsung, Sony, Nokia, Motorola etc. still don’t give this liberty. Also on some devices you can install apps only on internal storage and you cannot move them to external SD card. Rooting gives you the advantage of moving apps to external storage.

2. Smartphone manufacturer’s seem to have completely ignored the battery issue of smartphones. With a huge chunk of background apps running battery drains completely in about one day. There are various unnecessary background tasks running in your android smartphone that can be stopped without affecting your phone’s performance but can improve battery backup. Rooting can allow you to control the apps that run in background and hence improve battery life.

3. RAM usage of your device is high? There are various apps available on playstore that claim that you can free up your RAM by using them. Believe me! They never work. Without rooting you can never optimise your RAM. You can also increase RAM of your device easily but you need to root first.

4. You can increase internal storage of your device by rooting. Your external SD card acts like internal storage. You will never run out of space then.

5. You can easily backup your data which stock android does not allow you. This is a big advantage of rooting. You will never have to live in fear  of losing your data!

6. Cannot play a game because it has been released for GPU other than yours? No problem! Rooting will help you to fulfill your gaming dreams by getting out most of from your device.

Disadvantages

1. Once you root your phone you lose manufacturer’s warranty. But phone can be unrooted very easily and you will have the warranty back within no time.

2. There is very little chance that you may damage your smartphone’s software to an extent that it cannot be fixed. In that case your phone is ‘Bricked’ ( because your phone now is as good as a ‘brick’). But believe me it does not happen very often.
